We rented from Ken and Missy for two years. It was a decent apartment in the fabulous Mt. Adams. Because we loved the location we put up with a lot. #1 We had "new" carpet that came with carpet bugs. They sent and exterminator and two years later when we moved out I still was finding bugs. But they were few and far between after the exterminator came so they were ignored when we should have demanded the carpet be replaced. #2 The building lights were ALWAYS burnt out. We would leave messages and it would take roughly two weeks for the light bulbs to be changed. #3 It was a locked building that didn't lock for the first year that we lived there. We left many messages and FINALLY after a year the lock was repaired. #4 The wasps. We lived on the top floor and there are wasps nests up at the top corners of the walls. They left these gross brown webs all over and still to this day they haven't been cleaned up. Not what you expect your building entry way to look like when you pay $925 (I think they now are asking $950) for a one bedroom. The final issue came after we moved out. We had a carpet snag in the bedroom that occurred after we had been living there a little less than a year. The vacuum caught the carpet and snagged it. When we got our deposit they charged us $432 to replace all of the carpet. (Yes the same carpet that had the lovely bugs living in it. I expected a charge for a patch, but instead we were charged to replace all of the carpet in the room plus the carpet pad. That last part is puzzling since the carpet pad was fine. But Ken and Missy will take you for what they can get. I will admit I am bitter but we really pulled for them and their business. We gave them a little more than a months notice that we were moving out. They brought many people to see the apartment before we moved. At least 6 times in that last month they told us they had appointments to walk people through never giving us the legally required 24 hours notice. Once we were given less than 2 hours notice, and every time we scurried to straighten up and leave so they could tour. So my advice is don't trust these people. They will take everything they can from you and give you as little back as legally possible. There are good, honest landlords out there so it might be wise to shop around. |
